About me

My name is Ivan Conway, a retired underground coal miner, machine operator, Deputy, Safety Officer and Trainer. The Whitsunday Wedding Celebrant (Now Retired); The Celebrant for the Whitsunday’s from December 1997 to October 2019.  I am also a Justice of the Peace Qualified.  My wife Maureen and I resided in Airlie Beach from December 1997 until our move to the Queensland Sunshine Coast in October 2019.  The Whitsunday’s has been our family holiday destination since 1974. I was christened on Daydream Island in 1944, my parents occasionally managed the island at this time conducting concert parties for the American sailors on leave during the war years. The owners of Daydream at that time were the Moody family who were my Godparents. I attained my Private Pilot’s Licence in 1971 and owned my own aircraft for some time which I used to travel away for a ceremony to either the coalfields or nearby towns and Island resorts. The aircraft gave me immediate fast access to a number of island resorts and many of the inland Townships. Unfortunately, due to the costs of maintaining and flying an aircraft, rising costs, health issues and vision impairment, aviation has become an unaffordable luxury, however, I will always maintain my love of aviation and the memories of over 3000 flying hours.  My most memorable flying experience was flying a Cessna 172 around Australia with my wife Maureen and a team of 5 other aircraft, visiting many scenic locations along the way.

I have had the privilege and pleasure of officiating Wedding Ceremonies, Commitment Ceremonies, Renewal of Vows Ceremonies and Naming Ceremonies for more than twenty-five years on the Central Highlands coal fields, Rockhampton, Townsville, Mackay and the Whitsundays.  I have officiated at over 3500 ceremonies in many great locations from December 1995 until October 2019.  During my years as a Celebrant, I believe that I have always maintained the highest level of professionalism befitting to my role.

I retired from the coal mining industry in December 1997 after serving almost 40 years to further my career as an Authorised Marriage Celebrant and Justice of the Peace (Qual) in the Whitsunday’s. I was committed to my role as a Marriage Celebrant and have officiated at many beautiful and memorable ceremonies.  There have been many great highlights during my career as a Celebrant in the Whitsunday’s including officiating my daughter’s wedding on Hamilton Island, the weddings of many friends and colleagues, and many ceremonies aboard beautifully restored sailing ships, on beautiful Whitehaven Beach and of course on all of the island and mainland resorts. I have officiated many ceremonies aboard privately owned luxury vessels and numerous charter yachts and even hovering over Heart Reef on Valentine’s Day in a helicopter. Another of my most memorable ceremonies was officiating the wedding of the late Jason Moran on Hamilton Island.  The final wedding of my career was for the daughter of a great coalmining mate with whom I had worked with for a number of years during my mining career, we have remained good friends and mates to this day.

Maureen and I, after twenty-three years in the Whitsundays, have now relocated to the Queensland Sunshine Coast to be closer to family.  I will be continuing my role as a Justice of the Peace (Qual), and my support work for Byronware with The Celebrant Suite software and The Celebrant Connection program that I created for The Celebrant Suite and including the new web edition of The Celebrant Suite.  I will also be available to assist Celebrants and others experiencing issues with any Windows based software or operating system issues that may arise.  I can be contacteds either via my Contact page, Email, the  Byronware Facebook User Group, mobile or Messenger. Please contact me at any time if you require assistance with any issues or problems.

My Cessna 150M, 160HP Cruse speed 120Kts with 6 Hrs Endurance.

My Cessna 150M had been fitted with a 160hp  4 cylinder Lycoming engine and Long Range fuel tanks which gave the aircraft sparkling performance, 6 hours endurance and was an exceptional aircraft to fly. After reluctantly parting with SKR, it was crashed at Eneabba, Western Australia on December 16, 2007, and removed from the aircraft register the following year.  I managed to log many enjoyable flying hours in SKR also competing at numerous air shows and flying events.
